The Queer Window Project Illustration

Commissioned by Creative Scotland as part of the LGBT Youth Scotland LGBT History Month Cultural Commissions in 2013. The illustrations of The Queer Window Project are clean, stripped back, simple black lines on white, with nothing to distract from the person being presented. The tone is unmistakably queer, without being confrontational, and has become iconic within the new generation of queer culture emerging from Scotland. The illustrations were exhibited in a range of venues throughout the city of Glasgow, on A0 banners, to increase queer visibility within the city in a way that is subtle and accessible. The aim is to celebrate LGBT identity with the illustrations themselves, while their placement outside of a traditional art space, in everyday venues, avoids othering the LGBT community and underscores their presence within the range and diversity of Scottish society. They were also exhibited, with the photographic counterpart, at Creative Scotland, Edinburgh and East Kilbride Arts Centre for the following LGBT History Month.
