Skoliosexual hang out
In conjunction with my exhibition Skoliosexual during The Wellcome Collection Sexology Season, there was a participatory/performance element. In a glass entrance way (which got nick-named ‘The Hamster Cage’) I painted live portraits and hung out for two days. It was essential that the space and atmosphere was relaxed and approachable, taking art out of the non-traditional space of the gallery and welcoming people to be involved if they wished. An impromptu pop-up community assembled over the time, which I documented with portrait photography. Due to the nature of the work exhibited, many of the people who joined in were trans or gender non-conforming. It was awesome.
